The City is Booming
Written By Clay Smith

The Atlanta Business Chronicle headline “The City Is Booming”  says it all. We are blessed to live and work in a region with outstanding growth. The article headline mentioned that construction permits soared to a record $5.6B for the full calendar year of 2018. The other amazing fact is that this number was under a billion in 2011. This is quite a ride for the city and the traffic that we all put up with living in the Atlanta metro. , but we wonder how all that work is going to get done.

Of the $5.6B, how much will be built with offsite construction?  Leading mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) construction firms around the country are implementing pre-fabrication workflows that leverage technology to save cost and time.  These workflows also reduce jobsite related accidents as work is moved inside to a safer shop environment.  We look at that $5.6B number and wonder how much of that construction can be done with pre-fabrication to enable cost savings and on-time delivery of construction projects. Many of these leading firms are using our Our eVolve MEP SaaS solution.  These clients have documented significant savings as they embrace pre-fabrication despite the challenges they face with a shrinking labor force and a lack of skilled workers.

Let us know how you have dealt with these on-going challenges and whether you have adopted any pre-fabrication into your construction projects. We often hear that we want to do it but don’t know how. We love the challenge and the thrill of leading our clients and prospects on this journey. It doesn’t matter whether you are in the Electrical or Mechanical field, give us a call or email us with your story!

We are an industry where machine and computer power enhance the work of the person, in many cases, making the very jobs we undertake possible. Modeling wouldn’t be feasible if not for the computing power of today’s equipment, from Robotic Total Stations (RTS) units to laptops and cranes.

Making the investment in Building Information Modeling (BIM) systems can transform construction operations from the start of any project, leading to more efficient use of time and materials in all phases of the build, including long after the active construction project is completed. Through BIM, savings can be realized for the stakeholders in the project–from the building owner to subcontractors–and the operator of the structure benefits far into the future.
