PROCORE TIPS: Uncovering Hidden Features in Procore: Drawing Comparisons and Bulk Overlay
Written By Marina Lucier
Procore is a widely used construction management software that offers a plethora of useful features. One such feature is drawing comparisons, which allows users to overlay and compare different revisions of a drawing. Although many users are familiar with this feature, there are some additional functionalities that often go unnoticed. In this blog, we will explore drawing comparisons and introduce a lesser-known capability: bulk overlay for drawing sets.

Drawing Comparisons in Procore:
In Procore's drawing tool, users can overlay previous revisions of a drawing onto the current version. The software highlights additions in blue and subtractions in red, making it easy to spot changes. This can be done for either the previous version or any historical version of the drawing. This functionality is particularly useful for project managers, architects, and engineers who need to monitor the evolution of design plans throughout the construction process. By comparing different revisions, team members can quickly identify discrepancies, errors, or omissions that need to be addressed.

It is important to note that if you have multiple versions of a drawing and adjust the sliders, you will be altering the historical information of the drawing. To avoid any discrepancies, be sure to reset the sliders after completing your drawing comparisons. Additionally, Procore allows users to add comments and markups to the compared drawings, fostering collaboration and ensuring that everyone on the team is on the same page regarding design changes and updates.

Bulk Overlay for Drawing Sets:
An additional feature that many users may not be aware of is the ability to bulk overlay drawings through the drawing sets functionality. Instead of overlaying individual drawings, you can overlay an entire set of drawings onto another set. This allows you to generate a comprehensive view of changes made to a drawing, whether it's from the tender set to the issued-for-construction set or during a significant project change. This feature is especially beneficial for large projects with numerous drawing revisions, as it can help streamline the process of reviewing and approving changes.

Procore will send you the set overlays in PDF format via email, enabling you to download and review the changes across the entire set. As with individual drawing comparisons, additions are highlighted in blue and subtractions in red. This visual representation of changes helps project stakeholders easily identify and understand the extent of design alterations. Moreover, bulk overlay can save time by allowing users to review multiple drawings at once, rather than manually comparing individual drawings one by one.

Procore's drawing comparisons and bulk overlay features can be incredibly useful for managing construction projects. By utilizing these tools, users can easily track and visualize changes to drawings, ensuring better coordination and communication among project stakeholders. So, the next time you work with Procore, be sure to take advantage of these powerful features to streamline your project management process.
